The PGA International Golf Institute (PGA IGI) offers students multiple golf education programmes including Australia’s only Diploma of Golf Management, focusing on providing students with job ready outcomes for the golf industry, students may also enrol in the Certificate III in Sport Career Orientated Participation (Golf).

These one-year programmes are delivered face to face, combining practical golf with academic studies. Students can either choose to study either programme over a one-year period or alternatively choose to package the programmes together over a two-year study period.

The PGA IGI is a leader in golf management education. We provide individuals with in interactive and practical learning programme, to best prepare our graduates for a career in the golf industry. The learning is all in one location, step inside and you are in the classroom, step outside and you are on the golf course.

Students undertake golf development classes to gain a greater understanding of the sport of golf. The programme includes year-long golf access to premier golf course and practice facilities, golf skills classes with PGA Professionals, all whilst learning about the business, administration and management of the golf industry.

University pathways

PGA IGI offers pathways to selected Bachelor Degrees, providing students the option to undertake a 1+2 year study programme in Australia. The successful completion of the 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management earns up to one year credit (equivalent) into Bachelor Degrees with Griffith University, Gold Coast and Brisbane Campus and ICMS in Sydney. Students can select to enter the second year of study in Bachelor Degree programmes that focus on Business, Sport Management, Events or Hotel & Tourism. This unique pathway allows students to from all over Australia and around the world the opportunity to gain two qualifications in the three years of study, offering them multiple qualifications to stand out from the crowd. Additional pathways exist for further education with the PGA of Australia for passionate elite golfers. 

Campus and location

The PGA IGI campus is at the Gold Coast in South East Queensland and set on one of the most prestigious golf courses, Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club.

The Gold Coast has a sub-tropical climate with around 300 days of sunshine per year. During the summer months the temperature average is 21 - 28.4°C (69.8 - 83.1°F). (December – February, and winter is generally sunny and dry with average temperatures between 12.5 - 21.5°C (54.5 - 70.7°F). Spring and autumn have sunny days that are followed by mild tropical evenings and average temperatures range from 16.9 - 25.4°C (62.4 - 77.7°F).

Access to golfing facilities

The PGA IGI provides students with golf access across its education programmes. Students will focus on the process of golf development working with PGA Professionals on understanding the game of golf. This is combined with a number of PGA IGI Competitions, practice sessions, year round golf access and gym conditioning classes that benefit a learner as a player or student.

During study students undertake a number of hands on activities that focus on the specifics for golf such as:

  • Managing golf competitions
  • Fitness and conditioning for the sport of golf
  • Developing and implementing junior golf programs
  • Interpreting and applying the rules of golf to the golf course in competition
  • How to manage a golfing operation 

The career outcomes

The PGA IGI sees its graduates working in Australia and throughout the world within the golf industry. Our Alumni hold positions off the course in business and administration while others have gone onto have an impact on the golf course as a teaching professional or tour professional, through the PGA Professional Year Programme, some positions in the industry can include:

  • Golf club general manager
  • Event & tournament manager
  • Golf tourism operators
  • Director of golf
  • Membership manager

As the Diploma of Golf Management is so very highly regarded in the industry, most students will find part time employment within the golf industry once they are have started the course.
