Diploma of Golf Management at the PGA International Golf Institute

The PGA International Golf Institute (PGA IGI) has become a recognisable global brand in golf education and training. In the past 10 years, the PGA IGI’s Diploma of Golf Management has attracted students from more than 20 countries. We are the only college accredited to offer the 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management for international students, this course cannot be completed anywhere else in Australia. This is a one year programme delivered at the PGA IGI head office on the Gold Coast.

In delivering Australia’s only Diploma of Golf Management qualification, the PGA IGI focuses on providing its graduates with job ready outcomes for a career in golf. The programme focuses on the business, administration and management of the golf industry combined with practical development. Student will learn skills and knowledge used in the golf industry today within clubs, associations and organisations.

Throughout the diploma students undertake golf development classes to gain a greater understanding of the sport of golf. The PGA IGI provides students with access to golf courses and practice facilities to assist students to improve their golf game. The golf development and access that PGA IGI provides its students compliments the academic study undertaken.

The Diploma of Golf Management is ideal for individuals who have a passion for golf and want a career in the industry, could be school leavers or individuals looking for a career change. For people who want to improve their level of golf and enhance their knowledge of the golf industry, and for students who are seeking further education opportunities with pathways into Bachelor Degree programmes (the first year given as a credit) and into PGA programmes.

Interactive learning environment

Learning is not confined to the classroom. Students get involved with a number of interactive with a number of interactive classes on the golf course. This involves hands on experience through running golf competitions, managing events, athlete preparation and site tours of back of house operations, golf facilities and more. We focus on providing students with the best industry practices as part of their learning with PGA IGI and invite a number of industry guest speakers to present to students and provide further insight in to current industry trends. Our guest speakers are all industry professionals who work in a number of different positions in the golf industry.

Facilities

The PGA IGI is situated at the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club, on the Gold Coast. Sanctuary Cove offers championship golf facilities to students all year round with golf access and the practice range and the 18 hole Palms course. The Palms course is rated at number 48 in Australia’s Top 100 golf courses (Australian Golf Digest Magazine 2016). Students get to enjoy one of Australia’s top courses as their golfing home for the duration of study. With the Gold Coast averaging 300 days of sunshine there is no obstaclesto getting plenty of practice on the golf course all year round.

Pathways

PGA IGI Diploma of Golf Management offers student pathways to selected Bachelor Degree programmes, providing students the option to undertake a 1+2 year study programme in Australia. The successful completion of the one year 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management earns up to one year credit (equivalent) into Bachelor Degrees with Griffith University and International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS). Students can select to enter the second year of study in Bachelor Degree programmes that focus on Business, Sport Management, Event Management or Hotel and Tourism. Additional golf pathways exist for further education with the PGA of Australia for passionate elite golfers.

Pathways to PGA of Australia

The Professional Golf Association (PGA) of Australia is the peak body for professional golf in Australia. The PGA delivers education to professional golfers, and golfers studying to become full vocational members of the PGA Australia.

Successful graduates of the Diploma of Golf Management may be able to access the PGA IGI pathways into the PGA Professional Year programme. This programme is available for those who wish to turn their passion for golf into a career as a full vocational member of the PGA of Australia. This is a one year programme and is available to students who have successfully completed the Diploma of Golf Management at the PGA IGI and a Bachelor Degree with PGA IGI Partner institution, the PGA IGI ongoing Golf Skills programme and meet the entry requirements. International students would need a Graduate Visa for the 4th year as they will work full time in the golf industry.

Studies in this programme are a combination of full employment, on the job training, face to face training, school and online learning. In addition students will ensure they retain a playing standard through the ongoing golf skills programme and planning in regular tournaments.

Potential Job Outcomes

The PGA IGI sees its graduates working in Australia and throughout the world within the golf industry. Our alumni hold positions in business and golf administration. Others have gone on to have an impact on the golf course as teaching professionals or tour professionals through accessing further pathways with the PGA such as the Professional Year programme.
