Iona's story

Iona Brinch is from Denmark and studied a Diploma of Digital Media (Advanced) at ACG Yoobee

“I have wanted to go to New Zealand since first watching Lord of the Rings when I was 11, and I finally got the chance to go there on a working holiday visa in 2011. I met some people who were working at Weta Studios and they invited me to a workshop. One thing led to another and I ended up helping out with various projects at Weta Studios until December 2012.

Jack

Studied an Advanced Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology at Holmesglen Institute

Jack now owns and runs a Melbourne-based furniture business - Nosiva – Natural Urban Living - that specialises in custom made furniture and has an ever growing list of residential and corporate clients.

“Holmesglen was the perfect choice for me as I always preferred working with my hands. The lessons were practically based and taught me a great deal about the furniture industry. I especially enjoyed using machinery and tools that were identical to those used by industry professionals.

Weta senior designers visit ACG Yoobee students

A lucky group of students at ACG Yoobee’s campus in Wellington recently received a 2D concept design masterclass delivered by two senior concept designers from Weta Digital – the New Zealand studio responsible for many of the special effects in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and many other films.

Kazuhiko Kobayashi

Kazuhiko is from Japan and studied Custom Made Footwear at TAFE SA

"I was working in a printing company in Tokyo but had always been obsessed with shoes. With my savings, plus additional funds from my family, I was able to travel overseas for study. I was very lucky because I didn’t know this course existed until I found out about it on the internet. It’s a very practical course and I really love it. The lecturers are knowledgeable and supportive and I am studying with about 14 other friendly, shoe-loving students (the rest are Australian).
